LS Literacy Coordinator "INTERNAL" (All Gender)
to start August 2025, two years responsibility (C-Role)
Release time: five days per school yearThe Subject Coordinator is a collaborative, innovative and enthusiastic educator dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in student-centered learning. He /she will promote exemplary Early Years teaching, collaborative skills, a positive attitude and professional work ethic.
The primary focus of all Subject Coordinators is to promote best classroom practice and to facilitate communication, collaboration and organization within the team.
The Subject Coordinator will promote:
· a positive student centred learning environment
· international mindedness
· progressive classroom practice He/she will:
· Encourage an affirming community ethos and a sense of belonging
· Serve as a role model with respect to the Professional Code of Conduct.
· Establish an encouraging, professional, and cohesive learning environment for all colleagues.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Subject Coordinator will
· promote a collaborative approach to creating meeting agendas and minutes
· promote and support sharing of best practise in teaching, learning and assessment
· be available for supporting incoming new staff (including attending 2 days of induction week)
· where appropriate, provide recommendations for student placement
· set three (3) annual team goals to promote effective teaching and learning
· coordinate the ordering procedure of materials required for subjects within the discipline.
· coordinate subject-related events
Additional relevant responsibilities may be assigned to the Subject Coordinator by the Director as needed.
SUBJECT COORDINATORS (DEGERLOCH LOWER SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM)
The Degerloch Subject Coordinators form the LS Leadership Team and meet regularly with the LS Principal and PYP Coordinator to discuss academic matters for the Lower School. A curriculum coordinator works closely with the Lower School Principal, Assistant Principal and the Primary Years Program Coordinator, as part of the Lower School Leadership Team, to lead the development of their area of responsibility in line with the goals detailed in the school’s strategic plan.
· Continue to champion, align and develop Story and Writers workshop across Early Years through to Grade 5
· Build on the prior work and piloting of research-based teaching of reading.
· Participate in Learning Walk Throughs for pedagogical feedback in line with the ISS Definition of Learning
· To use MAP data in Grades 3-5 as well as other assessments, to guide teachers in best differentiation and pedagogical practices.
· Manage all Literacy related support resources, both offline and online
· A curriculum coordinator is a first contact person for teachers and parents in their curriculum domain. The Lower School Leadership Team
· Communicate the ISS Literacy vision, strategy, curriculum, and implementation to the community, including parents and staff members and visitors to the school
· The role of the group is to advise the Primary Years Principal, Assistant Principal, and the Primary Years Program Coordinator from their teaching and coordinator perspectives.
· Information arising out of the biweekly LSLT meeting is forwarded to the weekly Faculty meeting, the Academic Council and via the Primary Years Principal to the School Director.
· Collective decisions, whenever possible, are made by the LSLT concerning the domains of each of the participants of the group.
· Given the leadership role of the LSLT as part of the school Organogram, members of the group endeavor to model the ISS Vision and Mission and champion the aims of the Primary Years Program
· Members of the LSLT participate in whole school cross phase initiatives in the review, development and implementation of curriculum documentation.
· A curriculum coordinator is committed to on-going professional development in their area of responsibility.
· A curriculum coordinator shares expertise with staff in the form of workshops, presentations and offers individual support to colleagues
· A curriculum coordinator models best classroom practice in his/her area of responsibility.
