We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible and energetic Junior Instructors to support our Ferien@ISS teaching team.
The Ferien@ISS Junior Instructor works alongside the Ferien@ISS Teacher to support the care, supervision and participation of children throughout the program day.
Junior Instructors help teachers prepare and run STEAM activities, support individual children and small groups, assist with transitions and contribute to creating a safe, positive and enjoyable environment.
This is an active role. Junior Instructors are expected to participate, help, encourage and engage with the children rather than simply observe activities.
The Ferien@ISS Teacher remains responsible for planning and leading the group's program, while the Junior Instructor provides practical and supervisory support throughout the day.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Ferien@ISS Teacher with STEAM activities and daily program activities.
- Help prepare classrooms, activity areas, materials and equipment before activities begin.
- Support children during experiments, building challenges, technology activities, art projects, maths challenges and other hands-on experiences.
- Work with individual children or small groups when additional help or encouragement is needed.
- Encourage children to participate, try new things and develop their own ideas.
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere within the group.
- Assist with the supervision of children throughout the program day, including activities, breaks, lunch and transitions.
- Support the safe movement of children between activities and locations.
- Be attentive to children's needs and inform the responsible teacher of any concerns.
- Help children follow instructions, routines and appropriate behaviour expectations.
- Assist with setting up, cleaning and properly storing equipment and materials at the end of activities and at the end of the day.
- Work cooperatively with teachers, other Junior Instructors and the Ferien@ISS Director.
- Follow instructions from the responsible teacher and program leadership.
- Follow International School of Stuttgart safeguarding, child-protection, health and safety procedures.
- Be a positive and responsible role model for participating children.
Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.
- Genuine interest in working with children and young people.
- Friendly, responsible and positive attitude.
- Enthusiastic and willing to participate actively in activities.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations and children's needs.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to take initiative when help is needed.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of the Ferien@ISS Teacher and program leadership.
- Respect for the views, needs and individual differences of children.
- Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people.
- German work permit or eligibility to work in Germany.
- Health insurance coverage.
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain training.
Additional Experience Considered an Asset
- Previous camp or holiday-program experience.
- Experience working with children.
- Experience in a school, childcare or extracurricular setting.
- Interest or experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths, making, building or other creative activities.
- Experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Additional language skills.

We are looking for young people who are responsible, enthusiastic, helpful and genuinely enjoy working with children.
A great Junior Instructor doesn't wait to be asked every time something needs to be done. They notice when a child needs help, when materials need to be prepared, when an activity needs cleaning up or when the teacher could use an extra pair of hands.
Most importantly, we want Junior Instructors who are ready to get involved — build, experiment, create, play, help and discover alongside the children.
