ISS is seeking to appoint:

Upper School Language Acquisition subject coordinator and language placement coordinator (Internal) (ALL GENDER)

to start August 2026, running for 1 year (cover) 
Release time: a minimum of five days per school year. 

C-role

The Subject & Language Placement Coordinator is a collaborative and innovative educator who combines subject leadership with oversight of language placement and progression across the school. The role focuses on promoting high-quality, student-centered learning while ensuring clear, consistent, and effective processes for language development, placement, and transitions.

 
Key Responsibilities

General

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment
  • Foster collaboration, professionalism, and a strong sense of community
  • Act as a role model in line with the Professional Code of Conduct 


Subject Coordination

  • Lead collaboration within the subject team (meetings, planning, and communication)
  • Support best practice in teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Mentor new staff and contribute to induction
  • Set annual team goals and support long-term planning (e.g. assessment calendars)
  • Coordinate resources, subject events, and liaise with leadership 
  • Provide input on student placement where appropriate 


Language Placement & Coordination

  • Oversee all language phase placements and transitions (EAL, German, French, Spanish)
  • Coordinate Grade 5–6 transitions and ensure alignment across divisions
  • Liaise with parents and support communication around placement decisions
  • Lead/support parent presentations and teacher meetings on language progression
  • Coordinate WIDA testing for current and incoming students
  • Manage administrative processes (Axiom updates, IT coordination, records, reporting)
  • Oversee end-of-year language placement documentation 

Additional relevant responsibilities may be assigned to the Subject Coordinator by the Director as needed
